Girl Geek Dinners

A couple of months ago I went to a meeting for people working in IT. This kind of meeting takes place in almost every country in the world the first friday of the month. There were around 15 guys and 1 girl: myself. It was interesting enough altough I was the only one asked many times about my job or which system I was able to work on, etc. Actually I did not like just that I was the only female, absurd...!!!

Since fortunately I'm not the only female in the world working in IT, after a while I realized that other girls have similar experiences and they're organizing dinners across the world for whom is interested in, but especially for girls. They say "we want to make technology accessible and interesting to all age groups and all people… no matter what age, gender etc. We have grand plans for conferences, vlogs and who knows what else"

It sounds really exciting to me!! we'll see....

empowering minds!

i'm always surfing the web looking for any interesting courses and i found that at MIT they allow people to have free online courses following this URL  http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/web/home/home/index.htm even if without getting a certificate. at the moment i'm studying for cisco but i would try one of these courses.

Anyway beyond the chance to study something useful, i like the idea to find high level materials on the internet and from a so big institution!

time...time...time

i'm in crisis...i don't know how so many people are able to keep their blogs updated or can know so many (very new) news about the most recent technologies and about how they work.

i think i'm not the only one working but my 2 jobs, my studies, the other half ...at the end of the day i say "and so? what have i done?"

how do other people manage everything? i have no idea!!

women & IT

I've never liked to celebrate the women's day, because it should be obvious that women and men have same rights, but I've noticed that it's still hard to find a real equality and this time I want to spend some words about that.

Actually I think women and men are different from many points of view and their strenght is just in being different. There is nothing that a woman cannot do, but I notice that sometimes they do not believe in that. They need a proof of that or someone who can make them confident.

I'm a young woman working as IT Consultant in a team of only men (I'm also the only foreigner in my team).  Also, when I got my Master in Networking Engineering I was the only woman.

It's not easy to be a woman (so complicated), it's harder to be a woman between all men (they are so giants) but we can at least check our abilities in everything and we can success in everything.

In the IT environment it is difficult to find women and that's a pity as it could gain a lot. It should be seen as an attractive challenge for a woman and a good opportunity for an IT team to get more heterogeneous, determined and focused on specific goals.

I've attached this link to find news about an interesting event for the occasion of the women's day:

digital music

There is something changing in music industry in these days. Last week-end four major record labels (Universal Music group, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group and EMI Group) announced the new project Qtrax as a P2P legal service making around 25 millions of songs available for users.

It is high time to change the rules of “spreading” music and open our minds to new solutions, for 2 reasons.

First of all, as IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry) reports in its Digital Music Report 2008, though the online purchase of music has risen during last year compared with 2006, it does not compensate the loss left by the CDs’ business.

Also, we cannot ignore that music is very advanced along the digital road (maybe the more advanced than any another content business).

The following article found surfing is very interesting:
